Bathroom Light Fixtures

Question:
Hi,
I have a small 1/2 bath off my kitchen. I just had it painted a dark navy blue (Benjamin Moore HC-155). The bottom chair rail and the trim are white. I want to put up a mirror and two wall sconces on either side. What suggestions do you have for colors? Would a dark wood mirror work? What kind of sconces should I look for? I have seen some sconces with a burlap fabric, would they go? Also, what color should I get for other fixtures, i.e. towel rack, toilet paper holder?

Laura,
The answer on your question depends on your preferences and on the mood that you want to create in this room. Your bathroom is small, and many dark accessories along with navy blue walls will make it visually even smaller. If you don’t care about it, and like dramatic-looking interiors, you may go with dark, saturated colors. I would recommend then cherry wood for the mirror: it looks very attractive on navy walls. Bathroom wall sconces with burlap fabric would work nicely too. As for other bathroom fixtures, I would suggest items made of brushed nickel, brass, rubbed bronze, or wrought iron. All these accessories together will create an impressive, dramatic effect in the room.
However, if you want to brighten your bathroom up, choose white or light colored items. They will look beautiful on navy blue walls and will complement the bathroom white trim. If you want to make the room visually larger - get a large unframed mirror. Or, you may choose white or natural wood mirror frame. Shiny gold or chrome bathroom fixtures and wall sconces with frosted white or opal glass shades would cheer up the entire room.
