Can I mix window blinds and shades in the same room?
(Boise, Idaho USA)
I have a small home and want to replace the 1" metal window shades with something else.
In the living room there is a patio door with a 26" x 41" window and next to the door is a picture window 71" x 47". Would it be ok to put a 2" blind in the window and a 1" cellular shade on the door?
Thanks in advance,
Very interesting question, Sherry!
Though mixing different window treatments is a common thing for many interiors, I have never thought about installing horizontal blinds next to cellular shades. Honestly, I don’t think they would look nice together. Sorry. I would recommend you to find a type of window shades that will look nice on the picture window and will make a good blend with cellular shades. It could be light filtering roller shade or, if you still want a look of horizontal blinds, you may try transparent or semi-opaque sheer shades, like Hunter Douglas Silhouette window shades. This type of window treatment combines features of horizontal blinds with soft sheer shading. They have a gorgeous appearance and perfectly suit picture windows. They look softer than traditional horizontal blinds and would mix better with cellular shades. For best match look for the color similar to your existing shades tone.
Another way to tie together different types of your window treatment is to add decorative drapes and/or window valance. Drapes don’t need to be functional, but they will enhance and unify the entire look of your windows, and will add vertical accent to your horizontal shades.
Hope it helps you,
