Kitchen window treatment has many variations: from window blinds and shades to draperies, so you can choose the one you like the best. But speaking about kitchen, there are some limitations also.

First of all, where is the window located? If it’s far from the stove or the sink - say, in dining area, you are less limited in choices. You can select blinds, shades or draperies and don’t worry much about possible damage from high temperature and moisture.

But if the window is close to a stove or to a sink, consider a window dressing that is resistant to heat and humidity. Many window treatment companies add these features to their products and you can easily find them on the market. If the window deep enough, you should better install inside mount blinds or shades. It will give a neatly look and will be more safety for the window closed to a stove.

Window shades and horizontal window blinds are more convenient as kitchen window treatment then draperies, because they usually can be moved by pulling them up or down, and not to sides of the window, like draperies, where they may interfere with kitchen items and appliances.

Most practical choices among window blinds for kitchen windows are vinyl and aluminum mini blinds. They have moisture resistance and are easy to clean.

If you like a look of wooden blinds, consider their “kitchen friendly” alternative – faux wood blinds, which are more practical there. You can choose from vide variety of colors and styles and can find really realistic looking examples.

You can choose also vertical blinds, though many people don’t like them because of their outdated look. However, vertical blinds will be a practical kitchen window treatment if you have wide window or sliding door in your kitchen.

When choosing the color for your kitchen window dressing, you would definitely look for something that goes well with the rest of the interior. Keep in mind though, that dark colors absorb a large amount of light, while light colors reflect the sunlight. It can be an important point for you to consider, especially for the kitchen that is small, or that doesn’t have enough light in it.

Some lucky men have bow or bay window in their kitchen. It’s not only gives an additional charm to their interior, but also provides an additional space, which is always very helpful in the kitchen! If you have such a window in the kitchen, you can use this space for many purposes: arrange there your collection of pottery for example, use it as an additional room for your kitchenware, or even create a mini garden by putting there some potted plants and flower.
