Patio Door Window Treatments

Question:

This is a question that I am struggling with. I have a 6' patio door that needs treatment. It is in a living room that has white shutters on 2 large windows, I don't know what fabric to use on doors. Sun is an issue but privacy is not, and I like to pull completely to left.

Answer:

You may actually choose from several patio door window treatments. If you like curtains – look for ones that slide easily from side to side. The type of fabric depends on your desirable sun control level. If you need to reduce sun glare only – you may choose sheer panels, or curtains made of light fabric. Otherwise, consider blackout curtains that block light completely (but remember, that such curtains provide a complete privacy as well). As for their color – look for one that complement both your white shutters and your room’s color scheme. For ideas about fabric colors you may view this page.

Another great patio door window treatment is vertical blinds. Though some people dislike them, they are still most convenient choice for patio doors, especially for large ones. There are some fabric verticals that look like elegant drapes and give you all advantages of window blinds. For example, Alustra Luminette Privacy Sheers made by Hunter Douglas have a stylish look and provide many features you would like. There are several types of materials you may select from - from light sheers to completely opaque fabric. They also have a number features that are especially important for large patio doors like yours:
These blinds are easy to operate (and usually you may order ones that move to one side only, left or right).
They are energy efficient and have excellent UV protection.
They also have neatly exterior appearance.

Hope it helps,
Alina
