Little Things That Make the Difference

By Rob Stone

The most important thing in the world other than our own families is our home. It is the place we spend the majority of our lives, go when we have had a bad day at work and feel the safest. It is no wonder that we spend hundreds and thousands on renovations and decorations to make our home look the very best. But there are also many quick and inexpensive ways to re-decorate the house. Here are two simple home decorating ideas – two little things that will make the difference in your home. These things will be especially noticeable in your bathroom or the kitchen – the most important rooms in the house. The great advantage of them is that they are affordable and make an immediate effect in the room interior. Using them, you will renew your kitchen or bathroom without spending a fortune.

Repaint Your Doors and Door Frames

It is important to make any home decor changes noticeable, otherwise there is little point in doing it. One of the best ways to quickly change the look of your home is to repaint the skirting boards, doors and door frames throughout the whole house. This will affect all your room interiors while costing very little. You have two options for doing this, depending on how thorough you wish to be. Firstly, you can invest in a paint stripper and remove the paint on all the doors and door frames before repainting them. The major down side of this option is that it’s a hard work and will take a long time. Alternatively, you can paint over existing gloss paint. If you decide to do this, you will need to sandpaper it down first before repainting.

Paint Your Walls

Another way to quickly and effectively redecorate your home is to paint the walls. Again, you can do it in every room and along with repainted doors and door frames you will quickly make the house look like new. If there are wallpapers on your walls, you will need to strip them first. Use warm water on the wallpaper before removing them. It is hard work but can be strangely therapeutic. Once done you may need to do some repair work to make sure the walls are smooth and blemish free. To do that simply fill in any cracks or holes with a filler, wait until it dry completely and then sandpaper it down to give your walls a wonderfully smooth finish. Now you can paint them.

These simple home decorating ideas can change the whole feel of your house. You can invest in tools that you will use again in the future and the paint can be purchased in bulk making it very affordable. These home decor changes are not only inexpensive, they are something you can do by yourself. What could be better than that?
